L03-Project management

What are the four key considerations when planning an effective media project?
-Time
-budget
-employees
-equipment
How do we make decisions on each consideration?
We make decisions on how much we have to spare of each of the key considerations eg.how long you have to make the media project and or how much money you have to invest in it

project management is the role of ensuring that all aspects of a given production run smoothly by overseeing a number if people/departments.
the project manager would ensure that deadlines are met and the brief is followed by liaising with others and holding them to account.
project management is the effective planning and running of a project, from the ideas points to the end product and evaluation
planning requires an outline of the tasks, deadlines, contingencies (the alternative) and milestones that will be required to manage the project effectively

Gantt charts
a Gantt chart uses horizontal bars to illustrate the project completion dates, progress, milestones and dependancies. A bar chart where each bar marks the start and end of each task and activity.
A project management tool...each bar represents each stage of production
also allows to determine any tasks that have dependancies eg. getting a camera in order to be able to film

other project management tools include:
production schedule
todo list
workflow tool: split by team member so roles are assigned clearly and when they are done.

how do all these pre-production documents aid project management?

initial pitch or treatment - outline of jobs to be done
call sheet - a contact document
budget proposal form - designating where the money goes to and how much, being suggested
budget - where money goes to, sectioned
contracts -documents of how much a person is working and for how much
storyboard - the basic story drawn up
set diagram - what the set would look like drawn/ built
camera shot list - list of shots that need to be taken whilst filming, scene by scene
talent release form - the cast you're using
location release form - permission form for using a location
daily progress report - written up progress, logged to stay on time
continuity sheet -
equipment log - written list of what equipment is being used
shooting script -
visual effects (FX) breakdown -
audience questionnaire for product testing -
asset log -
risk assessment - a document saying all of the potential issues
recce/scouting sheet - checking the location before production
editing log - a list of what needs to be edited

Logistics:
this is the complex process of organising resources for production
this includes getting:
- personnel
-props
-production equipment
-locations
-transportation
-care on location

What logistical issues might arise on a massive production like Star Wars: Force Awakens?
-location
-production equipment
-care on location
-props
-personnel

Individual release form: for individuals working on a project, to sign over the rights to their work and or intellectual property
consent form: for actors employed for the project, needs to be signed. note, under 18s require permission from a guardian.
location form: for all locations used in a film, must be completed to not only grant access but also appear on camera. some buildings are subject to copyright law

Crowd funding

An introduction to budgeting video: it is a creative tool that helps you to create a plan to pull of your movie  to get the director what they want  you need to know the story (script) and all the details of it  knowing how much things cost, do your research  use phone calls to find out prices  talk whilst negotiating the price  you have to be flexible with your money and take away from other areas to help where its needed  don't forget about post-production  food is important not to forget  "you can pull of anything with anything" compromise and balance between departments  What do you think crowdfunding is? The act of asking random people to give you money to create your product. What is the film called? What was the Kickstarter project for? How long did they spend developing the concept? How many days do the most successful campaigns run for? What figure did they decide on? How did they promote the project? ...
